Philip Treece

Philip Treece has a BA (Combined Honours) in Linguistics and Russian from Exeter University, an MA in Applied Linguistics from Birmingham University and an RSA Diploma in TEFLA. He has taught English in general, business, ESP and EAP contexts in Turkey, Cyprus and Indonesia as well as in the UK.

He is now the Director of the English for Academic Purposes Presessional Programme, having first started working at Birmingham in 1999, first as an EAP teacher and later as Senior Teacher. 

He co-wrote, with Dr David Oakey, the main in-house course materials that are used on the current EAP Presessional programme.  His other responsibilities include teaching on EISU’s in-sessional classes, one-to-one tutorials for international students and teaching general and academic English.

His main professional interests lie in EAP course design, grammar in EAP, developing academic writing skills, materials development (particularly in listening and writing) and using language corpora in the classroom.
